This class is designed for sailing a J-24 sailboat and is an introduction to keel boat sailing. Class meets in the day from 9 am to 12 noon at the St. Joseph River Yacht Club. In this class, adult sailors learn the basic skills to sail a keel boat as part of a crew. Students are taught the parts of a sailboat, the points of sail, introduction to trimming sails with a winch, basic knot tying, and tracking a course with a compass. Due to the size of the boat, this class is limited to a maximum of four students offering a great opportunity to learn under close instructor supervision. This class is open to students at least eighteen years old.
The SJJF program is based on the US Sailing training system. Students will always wear life jackets. Instructors accompany the students in the boat. All instructors are experienced sailors, many having learned to sail in the SJJF Summer Sailing Program and trained through US Sailing.
