He is entering his 8th year as SJJF Director. Many of the students will already know Mr. Fratzke as a coach or teacher. Jeff says, “The best part of my job is seeing all the successes of our student sailors over the course of the summer and their growth through the years.”

Senior Instructor

Summer

Summer Stockton (18) is a senior sailing instructor at SJJF and has been part of the Junior Foundation instructor team since 2022. She first learned to sail at SJJF in 2018 and has spent every summer on Lake Michigan as both a student and instructor. Summer also teaches at the Asheville Sailing Club in North Carolina, where she currently lives. She loves helping students build confidence on the water and adapts her coaching style to meet each sailor where they are. When she’s not sailing, you’ll likely find her on a tennis court—or hanging out with her dogs Penny and Gatsby.

Senior Instructor

Emmet

Emmet is a senior instructor, and this will be his fourth year with SJJF. He learned to sail at SJJF when he was just 8, and is now certified to teach students himself. He is especially skilled at powerboat driving. His favorite part of teaching is watching the progression of students from beginners to confident sailors. He is a sophomore at the University of Michigan, studying engineering. Emmet says his goals this summer are to “continue learning teaching strategies, as well as the hard skills of sailing, to better answer students’ questions.

Instructor

Will

Will has been an instructor at SJJF for 3 years and has been sailing with them since he was 8 years old. He loves to see students having fun and learning to feel comfortable on the water. Will says that practicing capsizing is one of his SJJF memories.

Instructor

Mo

Mo joined SJJF in 2020 and worked his way up to becoming an instructor after three years in the program. He has six years of sailing experience, including 4 years of racing and regularly participating in Wednesday night racing with the “bigger boats”. Mo is a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor and is CPR and AED certified. He enjoys helping students build confidence out on the water while learning how to sail in a fun and safe environment. Outside of work, Mo loves sailing in the summer and snowboarding during the winter.

Abby spends much of her time sailing 420s throughout the summer. She is from Illinois and spends her summers in Michigan.

Instructor

Darcy has been sailing since she was 9. She started attending classes at SJJF in 2020 and began working in 2024 and enjoys racing on the 420s. Sailing with the students makes her summers more fun and memorable, and she hopes she can leave some students with their own great memories at SJJF! Her favorite flower is a hibiscus!

Instructor

Mia

Mia will be a level-one instructor this summer, and she is happy to be part of an awesome crew of instructors and staff. Mia has been a part of SJJF for six years, the last two as staff. Mia says, “I’ve had so many amazing memories with sailing, and I hope to create some for other people. I’m really looking forward to this summer and many more to come. Can’t wait!”

Instructor

Reuben

From student to SJJF instructor, Reuben started sailing 6 years ago. Most of his sailing experience comes from small boats at SJJF, but he once sailed on a catamaran in Greece. He loves when a student that couldn’t wait to leave the first day becomes one of the leaders of the class. Reuben says SJJF highlights include, “High school/fall sailing team, which was difficult but really fun. I also love trapezing in high wind.” Reuben’s goal this summer is simple: “make every student enjoy their time sailing.”

Instructor

Elijah

Elijah began sailing at SJJF in middle school, and from his very first day on the water, he was hooked. What started as a new experience quickly grew into a lasting passion as he developed both his skills and confidence on the water. Over the years, sailing became more than just a sport to Elijah—it became a place of growth, discipline, and community. That connection eventually brought him back to SJJF, where he went on to work as an instructor, eager to share his love of sailing and help inspire the next generation of sailors.

Instructor

Re

A four-year veteran of the SJJF community, Reanna is excited to return for her second season as a Student Instructor. This Lakeshore High multisport athlete thrives outdoors and brings a natural energy to the water. Reanna’s favorite part of coaching is sharing her passion and showing new sailors exactly how much fun the water can be.

Instructor

Amelie

Amelie has been at the sailing school for 8 years. She has learned many lessons–sailing related and life skills–that will most likely help her later in life. In her most recent years at the sailing school she has made many friends and spent much of her summer on the lake. She is looking forward to working at the foundation this summer and hopes to for many more years.
